The End of the Village

It is with a heavy heart that we announce Village England will be closing the doors at the end of the season.

Dear Friends,

And so, the time has come.

It is with a heavy heart that I’ll be closing the doors on Village England at the end of this season.

It was not an easy decision to make as it has been a fabulous 6 years.  The people, the places, the amazing highs, exasperating lows, and all the wondrous surprises that always followed the things that didn’t quite go to plan. Its been an enormous privilege to be able to do what we’ve done, and I’m very grateful.

Of course, we could never have achieved what we did without you and I’ve very much enjoyed your company. I want to leave you a very fond farewell and send my heartfelt gratitude to you for joining me whenever and however you found us. We’re very honoured to have held your attention in this busy world.

I’m very proud of so much of what the team has produced (with so very little).  My greatest success is in the people we’ve hired or collaborated with, and no doubt we’ll all work together again.

We set out to make bags to love, and blogs and emails that people really enjoyed reading. I think we’ve achieved that.  I absolutely loved it every time our emails were responded to (and thought it was even funnier when people were surprised that I’d continue the conversation.  Whyever would I not??!!).  Of course, every collection was better than the last and next season’s bags are again fantastically better, and it is the biggest heartbreak to not make them.

But there comes a time when it feels right to move on to do something different. I’ve learnt a huge amount over the past years, and I’m not sure exactly just now what I’ll do next.  Certainly, it will be something else big, scary and ridiculously overly ambitious, just to continue my normal. I’m currently thinking of getting a helicopter pilot's license. Or learning to whittle. Or taking singing lessons (knowing how excruciating that will be for everyone involved).

But first a rest.

Thanks so much for being part of it all.  We’re all going to be around until the end of January (except our usual week off for festivities), but the doors will close mid-January. I do hope you’ll think of us for your Christmas gifting (and our final sale is on now for added encouragement!).

All my love,
Jules
